Don't worry if your kids are fascinated by the internet. There are ways in which you can protect them from getting exposed to the adult world. In this section, we'll talk about 3 useful ways to block adult websites in Google Chrome. Let's look at them one by one.

1. Using Popular Extensions

Here, we will discuss 3 Google Chrome extensions using which you can block adult websites in Google Chrome.

Google's Personal Blocklist

Google's Personal Blocklist is an extension that allows you to filter out the content that you do not want your Google search results to display. While it doesn't allow you to block the adult website, you can create a list of adult websites you don't want your kids to see and filter them from search.

Once you install the extension, it will appear below every Google search result. You can remove the websites you do not want your kids to see by clicking the 'Block [abcwebsite].com' below the search result.

An alternative method to use Personal Blocklist:

  • First things first, update your Google Chrome version. The Personal  Blocklist extension does not work on Google Chrome versions before September  2018.

  • Search for Personal Blocklist on the extensions search page.

  • Click the 'Add to Chrome' button followed by 'Add to extension' button.

  • Open the website you wish to block.

  • Click the Personal Blocklist icon – a red button with a white hand. The button will be visible next to the address bar.

  • A drop-down menu will open.

  • Click 'Block current host:';

  • To confirm the blog, hit the 'back' button on Google Chrome.

That's it. By hitting the "back" button, you confirm that you have added the Personal Blocklist extension to Google Chrome.

Block Site

Block Site is one of the best and most popular Google Chrome extensions for blocking adult websites in Google Chrome. It is easy to use and allows you to customize the way you wish to block your websites. Once you've installed the extension, every time you right-click on a website, 'Block this site' option will appear in the right-click menu.  Simply click it and the Block Site extension will block the website from Google Chrome. You can alternatively right-click a link and click 'Block this site' to ban the website from opening in your child's Google Chrome browser. The Block Site extension can be used on both, PC and Android phones.

How to use the Block Site extension on PC:

  • Install the Block Site extension from the extension search page on  Google Chrome.

  • Click the 'Add to Chrome' button followed by 'Add to extension'  button.

  • Once the extension has been added to Google Chrome, click the Block  Site shield icon next to the address bar.

  • A drop-down menu will open.

  • Click the 'Edit Block Sites List'; The Block Site page will open.

  • Enter the adult websites you want to block and click the '+' button to add.

  • In the next step, click the 'Account Protection' tab on the left menu of the page.

  • Check the box next to the 'Protect your BlockSite options and the Chrome extension page with a password.' Add an email ID and set a password to lock the websites added to the Block Site extension. Hit the 'Save' button to save the email ID and password.

  • Verify your email ID.

  • And, you're done!

The StayFocusd Google Chrome extension is similar to the Block Site extension. It provides more control over the blocked sites as compared to the Block Site extension. To block a website using the StayFocusd extension, all you need to do is click the icon of the extension while visiting that website. Click 'Block this entire site' to confirm that you're blocking inappropriate websites on Google Chrome.

2. Manually Adding Restrictions

If Google Chrome extensions or other third-party tools are not helping you, manually adding the URL of adult websites you want to block in Google Chrome is a good option.

Follow these steps to manually restrict inappropriate  websites from opening in Google Chrome on your kid's tablet or smartphone:

  • Open Google Chrome and click 'Settings' using the three vertically aligned dots on the right corner.

  • Click 'Network Settings' followed by 'Open Proxy Settings';

  • Once the 'Internet Properties' box opens, click the 'Security tab',  pick the 'Restricted sites' icon, and click 'Sites' button.

  • A 'Restricted sites' pop-up with an empty field will appear. Enter  the URL of the website to want to block and click 'Add';

  • Save changes and open Google Chrome again to check if the website is blocked.

3. Use Your Router Settings to Block Websites on Google Chrome

While you can use the website blocker extensions to block adult websites in Google Chrome within a few seconds, all of them come with a drawback. You kids can easily remove them. There's no way to lock a website blocker extension to ensure that your children don't fiddle with it.

Therefore, to block adult websites on the complete network, you can use settings on your router. Without the router password, your children won't be able to crack this setting or break it. A  custom DNS can also be used to perform the same function.

As a parent, it is important to ensure that your children are protected from inappropriate websites and adult content in  Google Chrome. It's better to be safe than sorry. Now that you know different ways of blocking  adult websites in Google Chrome, act fast, act smart. Protect the innocence of your children by keeping them away from inappropriate content on the internet.
