One of the biggest concerns of the 21st century is children safety while using smartphones. Many research analysis show that on daily basis the usage of smart gadgets like smartphones (iPhone, Android, Windows), tablets and PC/laptop, by children ascends significantly. Considering that children are not able to decide what kind of games and internet is healthy for them, the parental controls that the smart gadgets provide are the best solution for this situation. The excessive use can cause serious problems from health to social issues at a young age, so preventing this is a must.

Most of the phones come with a parental control feature that parents can use to monitor all the apps on their phones. The Windows phone provides special package of Windows Parental Controls, embedded in the phone, that provide all-time monitoring of the apps that are used by children.

The accent of this article is exploring further on the advantages that Windows phone parental controls offer and how the features on the Windows phone can provide higher safety for children.

1.  Microsoft's Family Safety

Microsoft's Family Safety feature gives parents the ability to setup accounts that provide limitations set by the parents and allow children to play with and use only what the parents allow. This safety feature gives you the ability to check the activities and get reports of the usage on the smart gadget that the child is using.

By using this feature on the Windows phone, you can limit the access that the child has over choosing apps for downloading. There are several categories that you can allow, for example age appropriate games or free games. Apart from download limitations, by using Microsoft's personal voice assistant Cortana you can limit the internet access and set it age appropriate.

By using this feature, obligations like paying bills, having all-time overview on the children’s phone activity and much more, is easily available. The only obligatory segment of this amazing feature is the usage of only Windows phones.

Essential information about the My Family feature:

  • If you are a citizen of the USA and you’re a parent of a child younger than 13 years old, you are obliged to pay a small fee for using this feature on your Windows phone.

  • By accepting the terms of use, you can control Xbox games on the child’s phone, but only from the Xbox website.

  • The child's smartphone must have at least software Windows 8 because the My Family feature is supported only for versions not older than Windows Phone 8.

  • For opening a parent and child account, you will need to use a Microsoft account. For you to open a parent and children account, you will need to open it using the Microsoft account.
