In this article, we'll tell you how to put parental controls on Android phone.

Part 1. What is Parental Control – An overview

Even though you spend hours together explaining your kids and teenagers the "good" and the "bad" aspects of the internet, you may find yourself in a situation where your children are not paying heed to your instructions and exposing themselves to the "mean and dangerous" world of the internet. So, in such a scenario what will you do? As parents, you are left with no option but to take the control in your hand and monitor what your kids are up to. Parental controls allow you to monitor the activity of your kids remotely, or by installing the software to track the websites they visit. With parental control tools,  you can read the text messages on your children's Android devices, view their multimedia files, track their top contacts, observe their activity of third-party apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, SnapChat, etc., and block the websites you don't want them to browse. This article will help you set parental controls on Android phones to help you monitor the activities of your kids no matter where you are.

Part 2. Add Parental Controls on Android Phone

So, this is the most important section of this article. Here, we'll help you identify different ways in which you can add parental controls on Android phone and protect your kids without them evening knowing what you're up to. Let's look at the methods one by one.

1. Create Restricted Profiles

Setting up a restricted profile is one of the most efficient ways to protect your kids. Here's how you can do it:

Step  1: Go to the 'Settings' on your device and select the gear icon either on your home screen, notification panel or app drawer.

Step  2: Select the 'User' tab and enter the new users you want to add.

Step  3: Add a restricted user profile by going to the 'Add user or profile' and clicking on 'Restricted profile' tab.

Step  4: Set up an account Password. In the security option, select and enter your preferred choice of a PIN, pattern, or password. A new screen will appear showing all the device's installed apps with an ON/OFF button next to each.

Step  5: At the top of the screen there is a 'New profile' option, click on the three-line icon next to it. Enter the profile name (your kid's name) in the dialog box. Then click 'Ok'.

Step  6: Select the Apps you want your profile user to have access to by clicking the ON button next to those Apps.

Step  7: Exit Settings and lock the screen. Press the  Home button to activate the screen. Select the username of the restricted profile at the bottom of the locked screen and the password, pattern or PIN you set to unlock the screen. On the apps drawer, you will see the Apps you selected and will be the only ones the user can access.

2. Add parental controls to Google Play

If you do not want your kids to install random apps from the Google Play store, you can add parental restrictions there as well. Let's see how you can do it.

Step  1: Launch the 'Google Play Store' app on the  Android device.

Step  2: On the top right corner, click the 'Menu' tab and open 'Settings'. Then tap on 'Parental Controls.'
